When I was a young graphic designer, I always wanted to be an Art Director for a print publication. I was aiming for Rolling Stone, but what I hit was Patriots Football Weekly. I was one chick who knew nothing about football in a sea of football-talkin’ sports guys – to say I was overwhelmed, intimidated and felt out-of-place when I started at PFW would be a vast understatement. I quickly learned to love the game of football tho, and those sports guys became like brothers to me. All things considered, turns out I had better aim than I thought.
When it was decided that PFW would end whenever the 2018 season did, I hoped against all odds that it could go out on top. LIII was the Super Bowl I was really rooting for, where the outcome meant the most to me. If I had tried to write the ending to PFW, I couldn’t have done it any better than what actually happened.
For two decades I worked on this paper, and when the final issue went to press in February 2019, I was a little verklempt, but somehow felt complete. Above is the final cover and the slider at the bottom shows some of my favorite covers from the past couple seasons.
Enjoy it, guys! Left photo by Keith Nordstrom
